Hey, I'm Daniel. I study a MSc in Neuroscience at Uni. Leeds. I write an E-Zine called @NeuroSupremacy. It's all about the brain. Obvs.

I think you should read my interview with the lostprophets, or my interview with Zebrahead or maybe my report on Andrew Fenlon...or even his response to my report. I met Jedward once too, they suck. Read the interview with my childhood hero Danny Smith! I also just interviewed Chris Ramsey, a cool comedian. Oh and OK GO! sexy band. I just reviewed day 1 and day 2 of Infest 2010. I covered Bingley Music Live where I interviewed The Blackout and Dan Le Sac & Scroobius Pip. I just interviewed Less Than Jake.

The world didn’t change and here is why.

Yesterday I posted about a radio signal which was supposedly from a Kepler planet. This signal would have proven alien life to exist…if it were actually from a Kepler planet.

So in my post I was rather confounded as to why this wasn’t massive news? Alien life? Big news right? Well no.

The signal was not from a Kepler planet, it was in fact probably down to something a bit closer to earth…like a satellite. The radio telescope which was used aims at specific regions of space and listens and this case it was pointed at a KOI planet and heard what sounded like intelligence. Well I guess it was intelligence of some kind, it was us.

The way that found this out was by moving the telescope away from the signal hoping that it would disapear as it should if it was really from a distant planet. However it did not, which means it was from something much much much closer to us.

So that’s why the world hasn’t changed. Sad times.

Yesterday the world may have changed forever…and nobody really noticed.

Yesterday, SETI observed the above radio signal from exoplanetary candidate KOI 817. The researchers at Berkeley say that these signals are exactly what would be expected if a race of beings were sending radio signals into space. They say that the narrow band frequency immediately rules out any natural phenomenon.

“These signals look similar to what we think might be produced from an extraterrestrial technology. They are narrow in frequency, much narrower than would be produced by any known astrophysical phenomena, and they drift in frequency with time, as we would expect because of the Doppler effect imposed by the relative motion of the transmitter and the receiving radio telescope,”

Could this be the first discovery of another race? Proof of alien life in the universe? If it is nobody really is paying much attention to it. It’s incredibly exciting though, I hope people remember today if it turns out that it is a big deal.
